It’s true… a dress can change your life. It isn’t the material or the place it occupies in your wardrobe that does this. It’s the positive feeling you get when you first put on that dress and you realize that you are incredible just as you are! PUG has always believed in Couture for Every Body no matter what size or body type you are; Every Body is beautiful and deserves beautiful clothing to celebrate this!
That’s why we want to hear how PUG changed YOUR life. Share your journey with us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter by using #PUGchangedmylife along with a side-by-side before-and-after PUG photo and your own story of how PUG has changed your life. Each month one entrant will be chosen to win $350 in store credit to PinupGirlClothing.com as well as being featured in the gallery of ladies below. At the end of the calendar year, the entire PUG staff will choose one grand prize winner to be flown out to L.A. to have their own #pugchangedmylife makeover experience and photoshoot along with a $1,000 shopping spree! At this time, we will also announce a group of runner-ups!
“(PUG was) one of the few clothing lines that were not only making vintage inspired clothing for women of all shapes and sizes, but really caring about the clothes LOOKING great on all sizes. I began buying up dress(es) and wearing them even when I felt terrible. It is amazing what a good dress can do for your confidence. Thanks to PUG and their amazing clothes I have felt like the prettiest girl in the room on many an occasion! Coming from a girl who once felt like a monster, that's an incredible feelng.”-Xoxoallie
2014’s Grand Prize winner was Allie, a fan who credits PUG with helping her reclaim her femininity after undergoing chemotherapy eight years ago. She feared never feeling normal again, and began scouring the web for inspiration in the form of pinup clothing and models. She found PUG, and realized that there was a company out there that truly believed that all women were beautiful, including herself! Her story touched us all and reminded us why we do what we do, and why we love what we do.

Inspiring women. Inspiring stories.
The idea for #PUGchangedmylife of course came from our Supreme Overlord, the incomparable Laura Byrnes. We see how many fans share their experiences and photos with us on social media daily, so to celebrate our 15-year anniversary in 2014, we held a #PUGchangedmylife contest on Instagram with over hundreds of women joining in the conversation and sharing their journeys. Once the contest ended, all of us at PUG sat down to choose our top 15 stories, but we aren’t done listening to your words! We’re proud to be a positive and profound influence in so many women’s lives, and we look forward to continuing to hear your voices and see your transformations in 2015.
“I feel like I can move mountains when I wear PUG (didn’t you hear about Mt. Everest shifting a few inches? Ha, that was totally me *wink wink*). Long story short, I feel like a BAMF in PUG.”
We love longtime PUG fan @jellierocketeer’s hilarious and honest account of going from a self-proclaimed dorkazoid to feeling beautiful and confident in Pinup Girl. After spotting a photo of our own Micheline Pitt on the internet and realizing that her style was just the way @jellierocketeer had always wanted to dress, she subsequently discovered Pinup Girl Clothing and never looked back!
"I remember buying my first pinupgirlclothing skirt back in 2011 and trying it on for the first time. It made me feel amazing and (to) stop hating myself for having curves, it made me feel like a(n) actual woman.”
PUG fan @jessicathora’s story is one we hear often and are proud to be a positive part of. After losing weight, she still felt uncomfortable in the clothing she wore until she discovered the pinup scene and Pinup Girl Clothing. She realized that she was amazing at any weight, and even after gaining much of the weight she had lost back, she still feels beautiful and credits PUG with changing her outlook from self-conscious to body-positive!
“In my job, being a woman, you have to hold your own, be as good or better than the men. Dressing up seemed like a big hassle and investing in clothing was not a priority. I accidently discovered PUG on the internet and fell in love! I always loved vintage clothing and was unaware there were reproductions in modern sizes.”
PUG fan @easylyvin’s career as a truck driver meant that dressing up wasn’t something often on her mind. She felt that she had lost her femininity in a predominantly male profession, so when she discovered PUG, she also rediscovered her passion for vintage-style clothing and creating looks that she could feel confident and beautiful in!
“Our society is so ”youth obsessed”, it is easy to feel invisible as we age. It is rare for clothing to make you “feel” different, but these dresses actually do. My husband swears that the look, and the confidence that seem(s) to come when I slip on a PUG dress is an unbelievable combination.”
PUG fan @lakincaid518 shows that not only is PUG for Every Body, it’s also for women of every age! She discovered Pinup Girl Clothing whilst shopping for her daughter’s vintage-themed wedding, and while she was shy at first to step out decked in her new dress, she found her confidence boosted and loved the way she felt and looked.
“It isn’t just your clothes that I love, it’s all of you. You’ve helped to create a community for girls like me, you have all, at one time or another, called out someone online for bullying or sexual harassment.”
PUG fan @exquisitelyordinary used to wear oversized jumpers and ‘Lady Godiva’-length hair quickly done up in a bun because she felt insecure about her appearance and wanted to hide her insecurity. Then she stumbled upon PUG on tumblr and chose to celebrate her awesomeness in our Ava Dress and donate 16” of hair to Wigs 4 Kids. She loves the community that PUG has created and that she can look the way she wants to in vintage-inspired clothing!
“But at the end of the day, it’s not about the compliments, as heart-warming as they are. It’s about the indescribable feeling you get when YOU think you look fabulous. Your confidence, attitude, everything changes and it’s amazing!(...) This style... this feeling is something all women should experience regardless of size, ethnicity, or body shape and that’s something that PUG understands.”
PUG fan @moxie_mo24’s story is one of feeling acceptance from HERSELF thanks to PUG. PUG showed her that quality was worth every penny thanks to the feeling of looking ‘damn good’ in a well-made garment. She went from feeling a lack of confidence to feeling amazing every time she looks in the mirror.
“I found PUG and there were so many possibilities. My closet grew along with my confidence. I started to dress how I felt. Happy. Beautiful. Comfortable in my postpartum skin. I was not the same women as I was before my daughter was born. I would never be. But I was here now with a loving wife and the most beautiful daughter. My confidence grew and I embraced my curves- bumps and lumps and all.”
PUG fan Theresa Maenzo-Tanner shared her very honest story of living with postpartum depression and regaining her sense of self through a community of vintage-loving ladies and PUG! Her well-written words are an inspiration to anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable in their own skin and discovered how to regain their confidence again.
“Being called "Fat", "ugly", "big nose", "smart ass" and told that I should lose weight constantly at a young age did succeed in crushing my confidence. (…) For years (it) coaxed me to assume that this life wasn't worth living. Fast forward to two years ago, I got a PUG dress as a 17th birthday treat to myself. Not only does PUG make me feel like a gillion bitcoin, they make realize that I can do what I want when I want to and I can look awesome doing it."
PUG fan Lula Doe overcame years of bullying to embrace her love for the unique (and PUG) all while make her dreams of being a game designer/programmer come true! Take that high school bullies!
“I remember so vividly the tears drying on my face and hating myself so much and how it was so insulting that they could use fat women to market their products for other fat women. I wore dresses to be slimmer to be more feminine. Not the blob I thought of myself in my mind. It has taken me from that moment to unlearn years of society and family pressure that I had to lose weight to be beautiful. I placed my first order and when my dress came in the mail I had my first taste of hiding out for FedEx. I slipped on that dress and it hugged me and touched in me in a way that I was smiling without moving my lips. Pinup Girl Clothing had changed my life.”
PUG fan Ana Alheli Karate said it better than we could ever could. Her story moved us all and is a must read for anyone who’s ever not recognized how beautiful they truly are!
“I've been in the military for 8 years now, and the majority of those years were spent dreading having to get up each morning and go to work. Unwanted male attention was a fact of life, which drove me to be an outsider amongst wives and girlfriends of my coworkers because I was the one stuck with their men all day long. I gave up a lot of who I was, gained weight, and was forced to be one of the guys to please everyone around me. After I met my husband, I became aware of how unhappy I had been and decided to reinvent myself as someone I could be proud of and someone who wasn't ashamed of being a woman. PUG did that for me. PUG allows me to come out of the shadows, and stop hiding from who I am and who I've always wanted to be." -@misselliemurphy
"Once a year I speak at a local college. It's a chance for the students to meet a real live crossdresser. This is the one trip I take by public transport "dressed", walking through busy downtown Boston during the light of day. I'm always TERRIFIED. And I obsess over everything, specifically what I'm going to wear. Something that looks age and location appropriate and looks attractive. Most importantly, it has to convince this middle aged man that I don't look ridiculous. If anyone is starring it's because I look FABULOUS, and not because all they can see is one of societies misfits, a freak. The Monica Dress in Black Matte Jersey Knit is MAGIC. When I put it on I felt completely transformed, and the myriad of needs I have for an outfit melt away. It gave me the confidence to walk out the door and into the daytime world. It helped me stand in front of a room full of college kids and tell my story, knowing that how I look isn't detracting from what I'm trying to say." -Em Manray
"When the #pugchangedmylife started over a year ago, I loved seeing everybody's entries, but I didn't own any @pinupgirlclothing yet. The way people described their love of PUG and the confidence it gave them reminded me of my feelings around Modcloth. I was already a confident, sassy, dress wearing feminist by the time I finally took the plunge and spent more money than I had ever fathomed spending on a dress. I have never been so happy to sing the praises of a company before and I will do it whenever I get any chance to. PUG gave me a community. I love the excitement and positivity I get from the PUG community. I love that there is a place for folks to dress fancy and lift each other up. And I love that everyone is invited to the party. Whether you're fat, a person of color, LGBT+, etc, you can see someone looking like you rocking PUG, including in their models and lookbooks." -@feministunicorn
